We hope you will find our website interesting and informative. If you would like to know more about us please use the enquiry button to send us an e-mail or telephone the school.
My name is Adrian Halford and I have the pleasure of being the Acting Headteacher of Castle Primary School. On behalf of all my staff, the governors and other parents, I would like to welcome you to our school, of which, we are all proud. Please arrange to meet me, as it would be a pleasure to discuss further what opportunities await your child at Castle Primary.
Aims of our School
We aim to create a happy and caring atmosphere for our children so that the high, but attainable, standards in work and behaviour we set can be achieved.
We encourage them to develop lively, enquiring minds, to take risks in their work and provide opportunities for the growth of their imaginative, creative and physical skills.
Castle Primary School is situated on the northern side of Ham Hill, in Castle Street, Stoke-sub-Hamdon.
The school itself is positioned close to the site of a thirteenth century castle. Although the 'castle' may only have been a fortified manor house, the name remains attached to the street and several nearby buildings.
The school was built by 'voluntary contributions' in 1875, and was extended at the west end in 1901 - the extension affording a large hall, which is unusual in a village school of this age.
Castle Primary is a co-educational day school for pupils aged between 4 and 11+, and at present there are approximately 150 children enjoying a rich education here.
The staffing establishment is a Head and 6 other teachers, a Special Needs teacher, ably supported by Classroom Assistants and voluntary help from parents.
